1About Boatfront
Boatfront is an online classified advertising marketplace operated by Boatfront Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We provide a platform that connects sellers of yachts and boats with prospective buyers.
By accessing or using Boatfront ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
2Eligibility and Account Registration
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a legally binding contract to use the Service. By registering, you confirm that you meet these requirements.
When creating an account, you must provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at hello@boatfront.com if you suspect any unauthorised use.
3Listing Rules
Sellers may list boats and yachts for sale on Boatfront subject to the following requirements:
- You must own the vessel being listed or have express authority from the owner to sell it.
- All information in a listing — including price, condition, specifications, and images — must be accurate and not misleading.
- Listings must not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
- Listings must not contain offensive, fraudulent, or unlawful content.
- You must not list items that are subject to an active insurance claim or disputed ownership.
Boatfront reserves the right to remove any listing that violates these rules, at our sole discretion, without prior notice.
4Fees and Payments
Listing a boat is a paid subscription, at the prices set out on our Pricing page. We also offer paid "Featured" upgrades that give a listing more visibility. Prices may change from time to time.
Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc., a third-party payment processor. By making a payment, you also agree to Stripe's terms of service. Boatfront does not store your full card details.
All fees are stated inclusive of VAT where applicable. Once a listing goes live following payment, we are unable to offer refunds unless required by applicable law.
5Transactions Between Buyers and Sellers
Boatfront is a marketplace platform only. We are not a party to any transaction between a buyer and seller, and we do not act as agent, broker, or guarantor for any sale.
We strongly recommend that buyers and sellers conduct their own due diligence — including independent surveys, title checks, and legal advice — before entering into any agreement to buy or sell a vessel. Boatfront accepts no liability for the accuracy of listings, the condition of vessels, or the outcome of any transaction.
6Intellectual Property
All content on Boatfront that is not user-generated — including the Boatfront name, logo, design, and software — is owned by Boatfront Ltd and protected by copyright, trade mark, and other intellectual property laws.
By submitting content (listings, images, text) to Boatfront, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, and display that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service. You retain ownership of your content.
Content you contribute to the Yacht Guide is licensed under section 7 instead of this section.
7The Yacht Guide: Contributions, Licences and Documents
The Yacht Guide is the part of Boatfront where signed-in users write and maintain reference pages about yachts, engines, builders, known issues, parts and documents. This section sets out what you grant to Boatfront, and to everyone else, when you contribute to it. Section 6 continues to govern listings.
Guide text and photographs. The text of guide pages — builder, model, variant, engine, issue and part pages, their specifications, sections, layouts and edit summaries — and any photograph you upload to a guide page are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/). By saving a contribution you license it to Boatfront and to the public under that licence: anyone may copy, adapt and redistribute it, including commercially, provided they credit the Yacht Guide and its contributors and release any adaptation under the same licence. You keep the copyright in what you wrote and may use it elsewhere. Attribution is given to the Yacht Guide at boatfront.com and to the page's history, which names every contributor. Where a page reuses text from Wikipedia or another CC BY-SA source, the page credits it.
Facts are not owned. Specifications, dimensions, production years and other facts are not protected by copyright, and nothing in this section claims them. The licence covers the words, the photographs and the arrangement of the page.
Reviews, reports and posts. Owner reviews, "I had this" reports, discussion threads and replies, and reports of a known issue are published under your name and are not under the CC BY-SA licence. For these you grant Boatfront a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use, reproduce, display, adapt, summarise and distribute them for the purpose of operating and promoting the Service, including in search results and structured data. You keep the copyright. You may edit or delete your review or post at any time; the ratings and counts it fed, and any quotation or summary of it we have already published, may remain.
What you confirm when you contribute. The content is your own work, or you have the right to license it as above. It is accurate to the best of your knowledge. It does not infringe anyone's copyright, database right or other rights, and it is not defamatory. A known issue cites a source. A review is of a boat or engine you have owned, sailed on, chartered, surveyed or worked on, and you disclose any commercial interest in it. You do not copy text, photographs or drawings from a builder's or manufacturer's website, a brochure, a manual, a magazine or another website, and you do not enter parts data from a manufacturer's catalogue in bulk.
Moderation. Contributions are moderated. An editor may edit, reject, revert or remove a contribution, and we may restrict or ban an account that repeatedly breaks these rules. Contributions from new accounts are published after an editor has read them.
Documents. Brochures, manuals, drawings and other documents in the guide are recorded as links to the publisher's own website wherever one exists. We host a copy only where the person uploading it states the basis on which we may do so: they own the rights and license Boatfront to host it; the maker published it openly and no longer provides it; the builder no longer trades and the document is out of print; or they have the rights holder's permission. That statement is recorded with the document under the uploader's name. Hosted documents are not under the CC BY-SA licence. They remain the property of their rights holder, and we make them available for personal, non-commercial use only. We never copy a manufacturer's document library in bulk.
Takedown. If you hold the rights in a document, photograph or text in the guide and believe it is there without your permission, tell us through the Report link on its page or by email to hello@boatfront.com, naming the page and the material and stating your interest. A reported document is taken down at once. An editor reviews every report within 48 hours, and material removed at a rights holder's request is recorded so that it cannot be uploaded again. Write to the same address if you believe content about you or your company is inaccurate or defamatory.
Seeded content. Some guide pages are started from facts published by builders, engine manufacturers, owners' associations and openly licensed encyclopaedias. We take the facts, write our own text and cite the source on the page. We do not copy text, photographs or drawings, and nothing is published without a person approving it. If you publish such material and want the citation or the page changed, write to hello@boatfront.com.
8Prohibited Conduct
You must not:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- Post false, misleading, or fraudulent listings.
- Scrape, copy, or systematically extract data from the Service without our written permission.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or another user's account.
- Use the Service to transmit spam or unsolicited commercial communications.
- Engage in any conduct that disrupts or interferes with the operation of the Service.
9Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Boatfront's total liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total fees paid by you to Boatfront in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £100.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law.
If you are a consumer, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable UK consumer protection legislation are not affected by these Terms.
10Consumer Cancellation Rights
If you are a consumer purchasing a Featured listing or other paid service, you have the right to cancel within 14 days of purchase under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
However, by proceeding to purchase a paid listing and requesting that we make the listing live immediately, you acknowledge that you are waiving your right to cancel under these regulations once the service has been fully performed.
11Changes to the Service and Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify registered users by email or via a notice on the Service. Continued use of the Service after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time with reasonable notice where practicable.
12Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer based in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or the EU, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction.
